This page is designed
to give the parents of my students a brief update of what is going on in class.
Check here for dates on quizzes and exams, information on grades, and anything
else that seems important. You can click here
to return to the Main Page.
If, as a parent, you
have any suggestions of what I can include here to benefit you, please email me
at kevind@wcs.edu.

It looks like
things are running a little more "normal" now. We are on our
standard schedule now that the first week is over. |
 |
My "homework"
site through the district seems to be working now, so please feel free to
visit it if you would like to know/verify the assignment for any
particular day. Here is the
link to the school's
directory (my name is about two-thirds of the way down). |
 |
I hope that this
page will help keep the parents of my students aware of the main things
happening in class throughout the year. I generally try to update it
a couple of times a week, so please stop in every so often to see what is
coming up in class. |
 |
Please note that
I am generally available before and after school for additional help.
No appointment is necessary... you just have to find me! I am a
"roaming" teacher, so I don't really have a permanent location. I'm
usually either in D219 or D223. |

Advanced Algebra
& Trigonometry |
 |
Students can
expect their second quiz over the trigonometric ratios involving the
special right triangles and some simple right triangle applications on
Thursday, 8/21. We will spend a little extra time reviewing the day
before, just to make sure everyone is ready. |
 |
A good portion
of the recent material isn't hard, but requires a considerable amount of
memorization. Students who master these facts now usually do quite
well later, so a little extra effort on learning these facts is suggested. |
 |
The next thing
we are going to tackle is the unit circle. It basically expands what
we are doing to angles beyond 90 degrees. |
 |
In case you
missed the last few updates, the first quiz has been returned and the
grades for a vast majority of the students were very good. |
 |
One thing we'll
be doing in this class is an informal portfolio (not to be confused with
the portfolio requirement in the honors-level courses). My intent is
to help the students develop a resource that will be useful not only this
year, but also when they head off to college. |

Algebra 2 |
 |
We are currently
reviewing the concepts of functions and linear equations. For those
that need a little extra help recalling the algebra, I have several
resources on the Algebra 2 page. |
 |
The Chapter 1
test has been graded and posted. The overall scores were
disappointing, but hopefully this will give the students and myself a
place to work from as we head off into the next chapter. I did spend
time with each student today going over his/her test to look at ways to
improve performance in the future. |
 |
I'm really
hoping that we can introduce the first component of the portfolio work in
the near future with the work we are doing in these first few chapters.
More on that later... |
