Thanks to all
that could make it to Open House tonight. It's always nice to meet
the parents of my students! |
 |
If this is your
first time visiting, welcome! I hope you find this page helpful
throughout the year. |
 |
I'll be working
with Credit Recovery in the afternoons down in B105, which starts at 2:45
on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. If any of my students need help
after school, however, they are welcome to come down there. I'll
still be in my room after school on Mondays and Friday, though. |
 |
All assignments
and copies of handouts can be found on my RHS faculty site. The link to the school's
directory is here - my name is about two-thirds of the way down. |
 |
Please remember
that I am available before and after school most days for additional help (with Power Mondays being an exception).
I keep an open door policy... if I'm there, I don't mind helping out with
whatever is needed. |

Precalculus |

We decided to
bump our unit test to Wednesday, 9/1. I think the extra day of
practice really helped, so the extension was well worth it. |
 |
Next up is a
unit on the graphs of the trigonometric functions. Most students
find it a little easier than the first unit, but it does require some
skill with graph behavior. |
 |
There isn't much
else to report right now... please check back later for an update! |

Calculus |

We have been
trucking along with the concept of limits. I think the students have
the concept down well, but a little more practice was needed on the
computational side. We spent today "mixing it up", and it seems like
the students improved by doing so. |
 |
Students can
expect a little quiz over limit computations on either Thursday or Friday
of this week (I'll let them decide which works better). I suspect it
will be very similar to those we worked on today. |
 |
Next up is the
concept of continuity. A big part of that involves one-sided limits,
which we have been discussing a little bit already. |
 |
The students
have been given the grading rubric for the circle problem (the one they
already did a rough draft for), and we decided the final draft is due on
Wednesday, 9/8. |
 |
Just a little
reminder that the grades posted in Parent Connection do not include the
extra 3 points for honors courses. That is only added at the end of
the semester. |

The students had
their test over limits and continuity today. I'm hoping to finish
grading those by tomorrow, but it might be Thursday at the latest. |
 |
We have already
started the unit on derivatives, which seems to be going rather well so
far. We did have a little trouble when talking about "rates of
change" and how those are actually derivatives, but that will become
easier as we continue. |
 |
The students
decided that Friday, 9/3, would be a good time to have the final draft of
the circle limit problem due. I think we've learned a lot from that
problem already! |
 |
Just a little
reminder that the grades posted in Parent Connection do not include the
extra 5 points for AP courses. That is only added at the end of the
semester. |
