Although greater detail can be found on my educational background page, in summary I have been a certified, highly-qualified teacher of high school mathematics for over thirteen years.  On top of that, I have over sixteen years of experience tutoring various levels of mathematics.

My strength as a private tutor is developing an understanding of the foundational mathematics versus a "drill and kill" approach.  Students also like how I frequently connect current concepts to those from previous courses, future courses, and even other subject areas.

I find it best to hold tutoring sessions outside the home, so I usually meet students at the local library.  Most libraries have study rooms we can use, which is perfect.  Unfortunately, I am not allowed to hold private tutoring sessions on campus.

The typical session length is one hour, although longer is sometimes desired before major examinations.  Because of various school-related responsibilities, I cannot set up a regular schedule with students but instead schedule sessions "as needed".  Most students prefer this anyway, so it works out for everyone!

Students can make the most out of their sessions with a little preparation.  I always encourage them to bring specific questions... problems from homework, missed test items, or just confusing concepts from a particular lesson.  Identifying the needs in advanced allows more quality time addressing those challenges!
